Does it have to be over yet ?
Jan. 27th, 2008 06:29 pmThe weekend was fabuous, despite being sick from Friday night until Saturday evening. At least the bug gave me an excuse to not look horribly clumsy while holding a toddler.
As predicted, not much sewing happened. I'm going to work on that right after I finish this post. As also predicted, I did knit. I swatched the pink Rayure Double (which is every bit as fantabulous as
heileen says) and cast on my first - gasp - sweater ! And I teached
lady_darkstone and the HOME GEEK to knit. They both wanted to check whether and how you could knit a Moebius ring. The HG ditched and unraveled the thing after two rows, but
lady_darkstone wants to turn her not-exactly-Moebius ring into a scarf for her mom. That is, if she's not too busy with the shiny new antique Singer she got this weekend...
I also finished the Chaos socks and will take pictures as soon as they're dry.
Next step : convert
lady_darkstone to socks and historical knitting. *evil grin*

Can't win them all...
Jan. 26th, 2008 09:50 amSo I headed to Toto over my lunchbreak, only to find out, after half an hour of searching, that they only had 1m80 of very thin silk voile in the color I wanted. Or heavy, crispy taffetas which would NOT work with the otehr fabric's drape. *sigh* Just pray that I don't mess up. I still need another ingredient for the dress, I'll try to go buy it today. I probably won't sew much this weekend anyway, with work today and birthday party tonight and tomorrow. But I'll bring my knitting !
Speaking of knitting, the chaos socks are done except for weaving in loose ends and blocking, and have demonstrated that my cast-off methid SUCKS. They're wearable as bedtime socks, though, and quite comfy as such.

Gathers, ruffles, gathers...
Jan. 13th, 2008 11:34 pmNo finished petticoat tonight, I was overly ambitious with my goal-setting yesterday. At least the monster-ruffle of doom is attached to the petticoat bottom. Now "all" I need to do is :
- re-gather the top and put it on some sort of waistband to check fit and length
- make some sort of bodice to turn this into a kind of bodiced petticoat. No way am I going to have that much weight hanging off my sole waist without a corset.
*drops dead on the floor*
And I just won 15 bamboo circs and 15 pairs of straight bamboo knitting needles on eBay. I'm waiting for the bamboo DPNs auction to end. Then my set of knitting needles will be (almost) complete (let's face it, I wouldn't mind having PAIRS of the circs, at least the smaller ones, for socks). I'm starting to think part of the reason I never went far with the knitting before was 1) the lack of a Ravelry and 2) the slippery metal needles. I'm dreading going back to cables with the Chaos Socks just because my DPN always tries to slip away from the stitches. I *heart* bamboo.

Un pas en avant, deux pas en arrière...
Jan. 13th, 2008 12:12 amI've been knitting all night. And am barely one half round further than where I was this morning on my socks. The second sock's heel looked so much better than the first one that I had to redo the first one. And then I proceeded to make a huge mess I couldn't fix without unravelling the exact same rows I had previously unravelled. But at least NOW both heels are turned.
And I've just decided that tomorrow (well, acutaly today, only later) is finishing-petticoat-#1-day. J'ai dit.

So I was nice to the digicam and the digicam was nice to me, and thus, I have pictures to share !
The purple Lucioles mitts :

And the beginning of the Chaos Socks :

I'm working the cables according to my dice like in Knitty's Chaos sweater, though I have slightly modified it :
Roll a 1 or 2 : Slip next 2 sts to cable needle and hold to front of work, k2, k2 from cable needle.
Roll a 3 or 4 : Slip next 2 sts to cable needle and hold to back of work, k2, k2 from cable needle.
Roll a 5 or 6 : K2
I'm making little use of all the fancy dices I have in the house...
I'm about to start with the short row heels and am a bit scared. Although my mind has been working on this all night and made me dream of exactly how to work the short rows and wrap the thread. Hello mind, would you please turn off just a little bit now and then ?
But now that the flat is liveable again (i.e. clean, and all the Christmas stuff has been put away) I'm earnestly going back to sewing. I WILL finish this petticoat !

It feels strange to have had two days off, and to have so much less busy workdays. And now I actually have time and energy when I get home. I think I need to adjust back to normal life...
I also took advantage of the Home Geek being at home on vacation to let him do the cooking (in fact, he would not let me do it !) and concentrate on crafty things.
So I have :
- blocked the Lucioles mitts. I still need to take good pictures of them, and will wait for daylight to do so.
- finished sewing together and hemmed the mega-long bottom ruffle for petticoat #1. Now "all" I need to do is gathering the top part of the petticoat to test how it hangs and thus figure out how much of a train I have to include into middle ruffle.
- cast on and started knitting Tournesols, a bright yellow beta-pair of socks. On my new bamboo circular needles, using Knitty's magic cast-on for toe-up socks.
- discoverd a knitted Ravenclaw bag pattern that makes me want to learn fair isle.
- gone yarn hunting only to find otu Monoprix had resotcked on Rayure Double, only not in grey-brown. *pouts*
- enjoyed yet one more "hot chocolate on stick". Most genious Christmas prezzie EVAH. I'll share the recipe after I've made it myself.
Not necessarily in that order.
