The 1873 sparkly scarf is done, except for weaving in the loose ends. I'm not sure about blocking this type of yarn. One thing is almost sure : I'm taking the scarf with me tomorrow - we're going to the mountains to see some relatives on the HG's side. the HG will go skiing and I... I need a portable project. I still have handkerchief embroidery plans. I could also start a pair of fingerless mitts in sparkly yarn (but another color) and the same pattern as the scarf. Or... what else could I do ? I'm at a loss here ! The fingerless mitts are appealing, as all I'd need to do would be some math - gauge being given by the scarf. But then, I'm missing the needlework. There's been no sewing here for two weeks, that's a lot !
Also : where the hell is my digicam ? I need to take pictorial evidence of my scarf !

I looked again at the scarf, at the pattern... and realised if I followed the pattern, I'd lose 1/3 of my stitches 4 times for every "thick" section. The scarf consists of one lace section, one thick section, aother lace section, and another thick section. That was NOT good. So I just frogged 6 rows of 290 stitches each. Owwwwwwwww.
On the other hand, that gave me an opportunity to check the actual length of the scarf, and *squeeee* it is super long ! I love it !
Despite the set-back, the scarf is comign along great. I'll be back to abut one fourth of the scarf itself after I've put all the stitches back on the needle. In theory the scarf also has a lace border but I'm really not sure about that. The border should be knitted lengthwise, too, and in several sectiosn so as not to mhave too many stitches on the needles at once. I'm a bit reluctant to do hat and then sew the separate peces together. And I'm not sure the lace border will be needed for the design, it's not even a very pretty border, just a simple chevron. We'll see how much yarn I have left I guess.
On the other hand, I have some other knitting projects waiting, like the 1888 house vest that sounds cool, too.
On the health front ? Still coughing some, and very dizzy. Must take it verrry easy or I find myself tripping all over the place and losing my balance and almost falling over. Head is spinning a lot as soon as I'm a bit too active.

Another funny thing : everyone asks me whether the scarf is meant to coordinate with my wedding dress... errrr... No ?!? Why should it be ?

Duh !

I *just now* realised this thing aobut using a circular needle for my scarf. [livejournal.com profile] quincy134, I feel particularly stupid for NOT understanding it earlier, but thank you anyway ! :) I'm into section 2 of the scarf (there are four sections, then the border) and skein 3.
And err... I'm goign to bed. That's all for tonight folks, I'm still feeling very groggy from the sickness, but not coughing very much anymore. And eating normally. And no fever. And staying on my fett for more than two minutes (though not MUCH more)

In an attempt to make not too long posts, I'll try to keep that separated from the sewing.

So I deemed the Kid in Yellow bonnet finished. I can't find any option to add a mouth that satisfies me. I'll block it and send it as a belated Christmas present, and basta.

Which means that I grabbed some size 10 1/2 needles, my yarn, my 1873-74 Mode Illustrée book (those are *heavy* to lug around to work, darn !), and started gauging the scarf. I was a little scared at first because the picture didn't seem to match with the pattern instructions, but I think I have figured that out.

It's kind of lacy, is knitted from the long side of the scarf, and has a knitted lace border added to it. I haven't checked the border yet, but the scarf itself seems pretty easy. Nothing more fancy than YO and K2Tog.
The yarn is com-ple-te-mu un-period, but I don't care. :p
Going from the "lifesize" picture of the scarf in the book, my yarn is somewhat chunkier. I picked the needles the yarn called for, I have no idea what is the modern equivalent to the recommended period yarn and "big" is not a really precise description to pick a needle size.
Things discovered until now : I have cast on many, many stitches just for gauging. And it seems the picture in the book shows the backside" of the knitting, not the one you start knitting on.

I'll keep you posted !
