I brought my 1927 Singer to the repair shop yesterday (if you remember, I had tried another shop, but the price was really too high for me) and they didn't want it. I had explained them before what kind of machine it was, and where the problems wereand they told me to bring the machine for an estimation - but obviously when you say "old" for a sewing machine it means "before 1980" and when you say "I don't have the pedal", it just doesn't compute in their little brains. Not mentionning the fact that the ladies just couldn't imagine that I merely wanted *this* machine to work, and not a working sewing machin. I already have one, thank you. I don't need to buy a crappy new plastic singer of yours, even though it would be cheaper than the repair job on the 1927 one. I got told I'd better just put mine in the trash and buy a new one, seriously... my dear little black beauty with sphynxes !!!! *grumbles in face of the obvious stupidity of the singer ladies* They wouldn't even do an estimation of how much it would cost !

I'm trying another repair shop thsi afternoon, I phoned them before and I think mad emyself understood about what the machine was and what I wanted. *crosses fingers*

This is when I'm happy I have enough mechanical aptitude to fix my 1926 machine myself.

A modern machine? Off to the repair shop.

I've been thinking about fixing it myself, in case all other solutions are out of my price range.

Ugh! That's so frustrating! I'd recommend my sewing machine shop, they did an excellent job when I broke my 1917 machine. And were thrilled to work on a machine of that age. Sadly though, what, 4000 miles away? Good luck finding a place!

Yeah, a bit far away ;)
The other repair shop agreed to make an estimation, and were very positive about finding a new pedal and maybe even getting the motor to work again. I keep my fingers crossed !
