I think it's the page number, I don't own the book - akaWhat clothes reveal. Yup, this is my next project. Yup, I mean to quilt it myself. No, not by hand. I'm not *that* insane. No, I'm not forgetting you, brother,
List of questions as I think about them :
- why does the waistcoat go up to the neck ? Not that it bothers me, I'm just wondering...
- waistcoat probably closes in front... pins ? Hooks and someting ? I'd lean towards pins, because they're easy to adjust, but would that be an issue under the jacket ?
- thinking about quilting desings. The original was cut from a bedspread, but I can decide to make mine prettier... Will the quilting make the fabric shrink some ? I guess I need to allow for some room for the thickness of the garment itself, but not much else... ?
- I probably won't make the front much longer than the back, I'll want to rewear it after Toadette is born.
- I might make a new petticoat after all, we'll see.
- what's the fringe made of ? What do I replace it with ? - because I'm thinking it's chenille,
heileen thinks it's very fine silk - one way or the other, I can't find that for a reasonable price.

on 2011-01-27 08:20 pm (UTC)-I can't remember for sure, but think it closes with pins. Like you said, that makes it very adjustable, and there shoulsn't be too much issue with the pins under the jacket since they would be stuck in the stays or layers of the quilted waistcoat.
-Yep, the quilting will shrink things up a bit. You'll probably quilt the fabric before you cut the jacket pieces so that will allow you to drape it on you or put pattern pieces on the area you've quilted to make sure you have enough
-Numerous period images of pregnant women show the hem of their petticoats hiked up in the front from tying the waist above the baby bump, so they weren't really worried about an even hem. Or you could make it longer on one side to go over your baby bump for now, then wear it the other way after little cutie comes along to go over a bum roll.
-The fringe is 3/4" looped linen fringe. You might be able to find something similar in cotton. Sorry I don't have any pictures to send!
