Does anyone know a trick to make machine-made buttonholes look good ? After a copious ammount of practicing, my machine still rushes along the sides, making a not so tight zigzag stitch that is neither pretty nor neat. My handmade buttonholes might be wonky now and then but at least the fabric edges are covered !

Perhpas try shortening the stitch length? Most machines allow you to shorten the stitch length on a zig-zag stitches and buttonholes. The stitches will be closer together and denser.

Sadly, this doesn't seem to be an option on my baby... But the last buttonhole on the bra looked pretty good. It got recovered with handstitching, though, because I'm not sure I trust the machine zigzag stitch enough.
