I had several things to post about...
Nov. 7th, 2007 10:21 pm... and I can't recall what they were. That's what you get for posting after dinner and one hour of swimming...
In no particular order, I remember I wanted to post about :
A - My mom's 1913 suit
My parents were here today and Mom tried on the mock-up. Apart from some minor alterations at the waist, it fits great ! And the alterations are needed because her shape has slightly changed in that area since I last saw her. So it's technically not an error on my side, yay !
Later during the day we hit the fabric stores and found some pretties. We got an acetate/wool flowered brocade in burgundy and orange for the jacket and an orange wool for the skirt. Of course, none of the fabrics are the same weight as the mock-up one, but the brocade was just too pretty to pass up, and the wool coordinates perfectly. And there's probably not enough of the brocade to make the jacket as I had planned it. But where would be the fun of sewing without some hair pulling ?
( Pictorial evidence that my mom looks good in (unhemmed) teens stuff )
B - Provence's mantle
I'm as pleased with the mock-up as I think I can get. I still need to add pockets and cuff trimmings, and then I can take it apart and see if I have enough wool for it. Upon reconsidering the inspiration picture, I realised it's longer than I first thought, so I may have to use the angora instead.
( Beware, ugly fabric underneath )
Other than that I have a new, kewl (tm) thing to sit on while at my desk, and my mom wants me to sew her a dolman like the one I made last year to go with my bustle gown.
*bounces* (literally)
