I finally had news from my antique sewing machine - the one I bought back in august for 40 euros, and that my parents have taken to Bordeaux to have it repaired. The man form the repair shop obviously isn't interested in really repairing it. He told my father it would be too expensive, too long, etc... and I'd better look for a working antique machine, cause you see, I could find one for 20 euros. First, I've never found one for so little money, second, I love *this* machine, third, I don't have time to hunt for another one, and finally, how would I know if everything works fine on the machine without being able to try it ? Then, if he did anything he wouldn't just replace the motor and just clean it, he'd nearly paint it new. Which means the lovely sphynx patterns would have to go, of course, cause he wouldn't be bothered to restore them too. What he actually offers (and since he does clearly *not* want to do it, it'll probably take a year) is something I don't want and I don't need, for an ammount of money I can't afford to pay - he said 1000 euros, yeah, that's right, THOUSAND ! Oh, and no, he didn't actually look inside the machine.
So I'll just ask my parents to bring me the machien back and ask the local Singer shop. They told me they'd charge about 90 euros for the motor, the same for a general cleaning. There's no way it's going to be that expensive !
