If there is one person or more on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal. ♥

I just had to. My life would be seriously different without the net and LJ. And seriously duller.

Because I'm too lazy to get up and take pictures of my new skirt (I'll do that while the kid sleeps this afternoon, I promise !), I give you a Friday Five )

As I said, new (pregnancy) skirt is done, and comfy. I made the hem per hand so that it doesn't leave a mark and I can redo the skirt post-pregnancy. Pretty grey velvet with colored roses, me likes. This bring my project count to 12-3 so far, yay !
I also finished basting the back and front pieces of the justeaucorps, have to cut out the sleeves now and baste it all together... and hope someday this year or next year I can have a fitting with my brother because I'm not putting that together without one last fitting, dammit !
I also finally got matching thread and quilting pins for the quilted ensemble, so once I have drawn out the pattern I'm good to go. That should happen today.
And I'm waiting and waiting for my packages to come. The 1912 book was supposed to be here on wednesday, the website says they came when no one was home (which I kinda doubt), then it said it would be delivered the next day, aka yesterday, but nothing came. Now it says it should be delivered shortly. I'm wondering if that means it'll finally come today... In the meantime, I'm scanning my way through the 1898 book - as we're planning a 1898 set LARP someday, it seemed logical to go through this one first. Plus, it's my all time favorite year. And I have this plaid taffetas that would be *awesome* for an 1898 dress... If I don't get distracted by some soutache stuff...

Oh, let's not forget the handy link to the pictures !

Comment and I'll give you a color that I think represents you, and then you list ten things you like in that color!

Unsurprisingly, [personal profile] msmcknittington gave me green...
- zucchinis (nah, I'm not buying for four people, that's just for me !)
- the lamp on my desk
- the hill behind our house in spring and summer
- salted caramel cream. Okay, it's normally NOT green, but in this house, we have green sugar. LOADS of green sugar. We had sugar trees and sugar potted piranha flowers on our wedding cake. We're very slowly using up the green sugar. So when I make some salted caramel cream, it's green. We also make green milk rice.
- spinach (sautéed, boiled, raw... nom nom nom !)
- costumes ! I get to use a plural because at least half of the ones I made are green.
- kiwis (the fruit... and my husband, but I never cut him up to see whether he was green inside)
- moss. Even in my garden, I don't mind it replacing our non-existent grass
- green beans (there might be a "green vegetables" trend going on here)
- gen mai cha tea
- I'll avoid yet another veggie by talking of my green platform sandals. 4 inches, with gold glitter on the heel and rhinestones on the foot. Although they're not as obnoxious as they sound, they just make me happy when I wear them. And I get to wear platform sandals quite often in the summer - it's the only kind of shoe that is relatively kind both to the feet and the back when working in the shop.

I actually forgot to mention herbs ! Mint, parsley, aneth, thyme,... We use a lot of them.

Something that's been making me happy for the past two weeks : I'm allowed to drink tea again, as much as I want. I can make myself a teapot or two in one day. I'm currently functionning on a stream of "Christmas in Venice", black tea with lemon and toffee bits.

And today so far, I'm only 4 more kilos away from my pre-pregnancy weight (which I'd like to go back to for the sake of not waisting several pairs of perfectly good-fitting jeans), the sun's shining outside and Heimlich is still asleep.

Yesterday I rediscovered I had ordered Laughing Moon's bustles pattern (yay ! #1) - which I had promptly forgotten, but hey ! it's more fun to try and figure the pattern out by yourself ! -, copied some pieces from that pattern, cut out some pieces from the TV bustled petticoat (yay ! #2 - I mean, I actually managed to SEW for TWO hours straight !!!), and I think I have a concept for the 1872 bustle. I also think I have to revise the way I meant to insert the bones and unpick a little bit of each bone channel for this purpose. Eep !

Today...
- seeing my lit-up christmas tree at the bottom of the stairs
- working with silk for my wedding dress
- more costume porn drooling (the Mod eIllustrée books are thick)
- more yummy food
- the kitty using the first floor window to get into the house (no hedge or wall nearby, mind you, that's an adventurous high-jumping kitty)
aaaand...
- SNOW this morning ! Yay ! It's the third time already and winter hasn't even officially started !

Hence, a meme in lieu of a real post.
I'll spare you the whole alphabet )

1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two. (Hey, I haven't even started... but then, I don't hav eto vote right now)
2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.
3. Include these instructions, and share the love.

I'm assembling the skirt pieces of the bodiced petticoat. I decided to just recut the one piece that had the worse mark. The others have some yellowing here and there, and feel a little weird on those spots, but I decided to ignore it.

Copy this sentence into your LiveJournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage/relationship (or if you think you might be someday), and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

To me, it actually feels as if marriage has *less* value if it's restricted to one part of the population

What really needs to get done is tidying up the apartment and making dinner, but, since everyone else is doing it and I'm tiiiiiiired, here is my list :

What I meant to make and do :click ! )

What I plan to do :more click ! )

It wasn't a very very very productive year, but I feel good about it. And I feel confident about '08 being even better.

And of course, a happy new year to all of you ! May it be filled with everything your heart desires !

I'm plain exhausted. In a good way. I kicked my own lower backside into going to the swimmingpool and only went home after 1100 meters. My back is sooooo thankful. But I'm drained and my eyes burn.

Anyway, I haven't done much sewing today, mock-up #3 for Provence is only partially assembled. I did some scanning on a 1883 Mode Illustrée, I started organizing the beads, did some grocery shopping, surfed the net and that was it, the day was over.

Five more questions )
green_martha: (Default)
I intended to post a short note before leaving for work today but hey, I'd much rather write a loooong one. And besides, I was running just as late as usual. No matter when I get up, I always end up doing this or that in the morning and therefore rushing out of the apartment 5 minutes after the time I originally planned to leave.

Five questions )

In the meantime, on the sewing front, I noticed I had sewed the front half of the Pillow Flower's waistband upside down, so that the pattern that was supposed to match (or not mismatch too much) did not. Luckily, ripping it apart and stitching it back in place did not take much time.

I had a major case of discouragment over Provence yesterday, but thanks to [livejournal.com profile] philcostumes's help (you're just made of awesome !) and to a little bit of WWKKD I'm now better.
I have taken out Demeter's bodice, copied the pattern from it by laying fabrics scraps over it and drawing on the seamlines. Which in itself is quite funny, or ironic; because Demeter was built to be worn over a corset, whereas this gown is not. There's almost no difference in the way it looks on me with or without the corset :)
The second mock-up was way better in terms of side wrinkles, though not perfect. From what I can deduct, I'm too square a girl for the original curvy lines of the avant-garde pattern. My underarm seam is an almost straight line, not a fish-shaped darty thing.
I kept the back of the Demeter bodice, however I did not want the seams running up to the neck in the front, so I mixed the front panel with the avant-garde front, and ended up with enough wiggle room over my boobs to carry an orange on each side. Not good. I know there was often some excess fabric there, but certainly not THAT much ! So on to the dummy it went, I did some intensive redraping. Now I'm going to take it apart again, cut out the new side back and front pieces and check the fit. Keep your fingers crossed ! If this gets too frustrating, I'll just start playing around with the hat.
Pictures to come !

I got bored of refering to it as "my dress" or "the next dress I'm making" or "my wedding dress mock-up dress", so it will be henceforth known as the Provence dress, or just Provence.
So the big plans for Orsay... )

Wish me luck !
Now for your amusement, a meme !

Do you think they'll get bigger when they grow up ?

I'll spare your f-list )

BTW : the kitty chemise is done !!!! It's a bit late to hammer grommets into the corset, though...

(Click here to post your own answers for this meme.)

I miss somebody right now.  (Haven't seen my little bro' in soooo long :() I don't watch much TV these days.  (I don't have one :D) I own lots of books.  (Not nearly enough actually...)
I wear glasses or contact lenses.  (Oooooh yes !) × I love to play video games(Nope, but I enjoy watchnig other people play) I've tried marijuana.  (It's a good pain killer, but it definitely makes me "float" to much for my own taste")
× I've watched porn movies.  (bleuargh !) × I have been the psycho-ex in a past relationship. × I believe honesty is usually the best policy.  (Twisting the truth more often is)
I curse sometimes. I have changed a lot mentally over the last year.  (yes, I think so) × I carry my knife/razor everywhere with me.  (Mwahahah, I'm not crazy !)
it goes on... )

And :
- I did not sew yesterday, nor today, parents' visit
- my pants still need a zipper
- we have a marvelous storm outside
green_martha: (weird)
Today I heard a song by Celine Dion on radio. And I didn't turn the radio of. I actually *listened* to the *whole* song. What's up with me ?

And now, from [livejournal.com profile] sewphisticate
1. You are limited to sewing costumes from ONE era (I was going to say one decade, but that's too soul crushing). NOTE: If you prefer fantasy or science fiction work, you must limit yourself to ONE movie or book series. Pick!

1895-1905. And that fits into one decade :D
One always comes back to one's first loves, they say...

2. You must choose ONE color to work in for the rest of your life (NOT BLACK. NOT WHITE.) It is...

I'd say green but it doesn't suit my skin type so well. So red. I hope we're allowed different shades ?

3. You must choose ONE type of fabric to sew on forever, it is... (and no, "silk" isn't good enough. Nor is "cotton." "Cotton voile," or "silk satin," however, are both suitable answers.)

I'd love to say wool but my eyes wouldn't agree. So cotton twill.

4. Why did you choose that ONE fabric you just chose?

Corsets ! :D

5. You can have only ONE costume whore DVD to watch forever. What is it?

"The Importance of being earnest" with Judy Dench in this very purple girlygirly dress, oooooh... And Gwendolyn's cream and blach stipey one... yummy !

6. You can keep only ONE of the costumes you have made. What is it and WHY?

Caramel's stripey woollen skirt. Because it is well made, elegant and practical.

7. You get only ONE website for research, or for diversion. You choose...

My LJ :D

8. You can keep only ONE of your reference books (painful, I know). Which is it and WHY?

OH NOOOOOOOOO ! Please SPARE my books, pleaaaaaase... *sob* Okay,"Das Buch der Wäsche", because it gives you loads and loads of different shapes and pattern for girly victorian underwear

9. You may keep your machines, your scissors, your chalk, thread and pins, but you may have only ONE other sewing tool. It is...

Seam ripper !
Second thought : no needle ? oh geez...

10. The sewing g*ds are feeling a little guilty about their draconian measures, so you can have ONE costume from a movie, or stolen from someone's (anyone you choose!) closet for inspiration. You take...

I'm hesitating between Gwendolyn's above mentionned striped outfit and Merteuil's black and orange from Dangerous Liaisons. But that's only because I haven't rewatched L'Anglaise et le Duc recently, you know, because otherwise I would totally steal one of her dresses, hehehe...

Since I haven't been memeing... so here's a little one to catch up :
Why am I on your friends' list? Tell me how you found me, and why you chose to read my LJ.
